History
Jones & Stokes was founded in 1970, the year that the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) were enacted. After long, exceptional careers with state agencies, Bob Jones and Jim Stokes formed the company to help clients navigate their way through the new environmental regulatory system. Our founders strongly believed that the best way to build a successful business was to create relationships with clients and work from a position of mutual trust and respect. This approach established a strong industry-wide reputation for the firm.

As the market for EIRs and EISs grew in the 1980s, Jones & Stokes focused its work where the firm could have a positive effect on environmental policy.  This value remains today, with our work on large, controversial projects that set or affect environmental policies and standards.

Jones & Stokes has expanded into several western states, and today the firm has over 500 employees in 19 offices. In February 2008, Jones & Stokes joined with ICF International, a global management, technology, and consulting firm. ICF Jones & Stokes provides an expanded array of integrated services in environmental planning and natural resource management, especially in the transportation, energy, and water resources sectors.
